His World War I Army services just completed, James P. Anderson began practicing the art of land surveying in Kansas City, Missouri, and its surrounding area in 1919. In 1945, he formed a partnership with his two sons, Robert and Oliver, following their active duty in World War II.

In 1983, Oliver's son, James S. Anderson, became Chief Executive Officer and Manager of the office and field operations.
